Research Strengths and Potential

The Australian Astronomy community carries out regular discipline reviews of research resources and strategy.

The Discipline Research Strategy Australian Astronomy: beyond 2000 and its Supplementary Report both commissioned by the ARC, and prepared by the National Committee for Astronomy, contain a comprehensive audit of Australian research capacity and strengths in the area of astronomy and astrophysics and a decadal review of research directions.

The mid-term review Beyond 2000: The Way ahead published in 2001, updated the research strategies outlined in Australian Astronomy: beyond 2000 to take into account developments and new opportunities internationally.

In 2003, Australia hosted the triennial General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union, and the Astronomical Society of Australia prepared a website Australian Astronomy which is designed to be the `public face' of Australian astronomy and features extensive links to Australian Astronomy.
