| Objectives
of the Science Foundation for Physics
The Foundation has two
primary objectives:
- To promote, foster, develop and
assist the teaching and research work of the School of Physics
within the University of Sydney
- To co-operate
with the School of Physics, the Faculty of Science and the University to promote the significance
of Science and develop an understanding of its importance,
both within Australia and internationally
To further these objectives, the Foundation undertakes
the following activities:
- Raising
funds from fees, donations, bequests and sponsorships
- Building
a strong financial position to ensure than it can continue
to meet its objectives in the long term
- Providing funding to
support appointments in the School of Physics
- Providing
grants to the School for the purchase of plant, equipment,
and materials to support the work of the School of Physics
- Promoting
seminars, courses and workshops in the field of Physics
- Conrtibuting support for the Julius Sumner Miller Fellow (currenty Dr Karl Kruszelnicki)
- Encouraging
senior secondary students to consider science as an exciting
and rewarding choice through the Professor Harry Messel
International Science Schools
- Supporting
the work of high school physics teachers in NSW and the
ACT through regular in-service training, such as the Science
Teacher Workshops
- Supporting primary science teaching through Primary Science Initiatives, such as MyScience
- Any other
initiatives as the Foundation determines from time to time
