One of the main aims of the Foundation is " To promote, foster, develop and assist the teaching and research work of the School of Physics within the University of Sydney".

Over the last fifty years of the Science Foundation for Physics, over $100 million has been raised to serve the aims of the Foundation. While researchers in the School have been incredibly successful in securing their own funding through other avenues in recent years, the Foundation continues to support the school in other ways, through travel grants, funding for teaching infrastructure and equipment, scholarships and prizes for students and staff, and salaries for strategic appointments to assist the School to expand into new research areas ... not to mention the Annual Dinner/Cocktail Party, always an event to remember!
