One of the main aims of the Foundation is

"To promote, foster, develop and assist the teaching and research work of the School of Physics within the University of Sydney".

Over the last fifty years of the Science Foundation for Physics, over $100 million has been raised to serve the aims of the Foundation. While researchers in the School are increasingly successful in securing funding through the Australian Research Council scheme and other avenues, the Foundation continues to support the school in other ways; through travel grants, funding for teaching infrastructure and equipment, scholarships and prizes for students and staff, and programs in science education and communication.
