Hunting for Anti-Matter

Kevin Varvell presents the physics and the physicists that were awarded the 2008 Nobel Prize for Physics. In this public lecture the significance of their discovery and implications to the new physics that the LHC is expected to shed light on is presented and explained. The public lecture was a major activity during National Science Week and it was presented on the 20th of August 2009 to a full audience at Sydney University. It is part of the Nobel Prize lecture series that the School of Physics presents every year. The lecture can be viewed as a video (68 minutes) as its entirety or in 11 minute components in youtube. Build your own Big Bang: CERN's Large Hadron Collider turns on

On the 10th of September particles travelled the complete length of the accelerator ring (27km). To mark this occasion a public lecture was held in the Footbridge Theatre at the University of Sydney. Dr Karl and Dr Kevin guided their audience of some 600 attendees on a journey of discovery and wonder. This was complemented by some footage of the big event from CERN. School Colloquium on Dark Matter

On the 18th August there was a School Colloquium entitled Dark Matter, Neutrinos and Beyond by Dr Nicole Bell of the University of Melbourne.


School Colloquium on the LHC

On the 4th August there was a School Colloquium entitled The Large Hadron Collider: An Overview of the Accelerator, Experiments and Physics Programme by Dr Emmanuel Tsesmelis from CERN.
