The Astrophysical Maser Group
Introduction
The University of Sydney's astrophysical maser research group is based at the Institute of Astronomy in the School of Physics. Group members have a strong expertise in a broad range of topics including massive star-formation, cosmic magnetism, active galaxies, supernova remnants and pulsating red giant stars. The overarching aim of the group is to answer fundamental problems in astrophysics by observations and theoretical modeling of masers. We achieve this by combining our collective skills with those of collaborators around the world.
Latest News
We are currenly joined by Benjamin Pope and Emma Lindley, two second-year TSP students at the University of Sydney. Benjamin is analysing MERLIN data to search for methanol masers in regions of massive star-formation with known outflows in Cygnus X. Emma is calibrating Parkes MMB data to search for signatures of methanol masers in the Magellanic clouds and two nearby galaxies.
