As scientists probe deeper and further into the dark recesses of the universe, they are forced to look at different parts of the electromagnetic spectrum, necessitating the use of optical fibers. As signals travel in the optical domain, photonic filters can be used to carry out signal processing, reducing the complexity and flexibility of telescope systems.
