Dear ASA members,

The Melbourne Space Laboratory is looking for a research fellow to contribute to an exciting project to translate astronomical Spectral Energy Distribution (SED) modelling techniques to space domain awareness. Experience with data reduction and SED modelling of IR datasets is preferred, but given the interdisciplinary nature of the project, critical thinking and problem-solving skills are most valuable.

A full description and link to applications is available from the University of Melbourne Careers webpage:

https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/6Et1Cq71mwf1YP0rntZ1w9C?domain=jobs.unimelb.edu.au

The position is a fixed-term Level A appointment for three years, funded by the National Intelligence and Security Discovery Research Grants program. All research activities are unclassified and the key metric for success is the quality and quantity of scientific publications. However, a requirement for employment is Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency (including New Zealand citizenship).

The successful applicant will join a vibrant research environment for space astronomy. The lab employs both research engineers developing and operating space missions, including SpIRIT - the first satellite supported by the Australian Space Agency with a total of almost $7 million in funding, and astronomers working on large JWST programs to study galaxy formation and evolution.

Deadline for applications is 26 October 2023.

I am available to discuss the position with perspective candidates.

Best,
Michele
