To participate fully in the Aus-VO Summer School you will need to have particular software packages installed on your computer. Many of these are standard and will already be present on most machines.
We have included installation instructions below. Please try installing the software before you arrive and feel free to email us if you run into problems. We will have some support available to help you on the first day if you have trouble installing the software. The most important packages to install are Python and the Java runtime environment.
Here is a list of the software packages you will need installed. If you are using Linux/Mac OS X then some of these will already be installed. There are operating system specific instructions below for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.
- the following Python packages:
- SOAPpy and fpconst
- Java runtime environment
- Bash shell/Unix tools
For AusVOSS 2007 participants
If you successfully installed the software on your laptop before or at last year's AusVO Summer School, then there is no need to update the software for 2008 (except for getting the latest versions of the VO specific tools).
In addition, Nic Walton has written some instructions for setting up the AstroGrid package VODesktop. These can be accessed here: http://beta.astrogrid.org/trac.cgi/wiki/VoTrainingAusVoss08 .
These will be useful for his demo session on Thursday.
