### OBSDATE ### 20110324 ### LOGDATE ### 110324 ### OBSERVERS ### YK, MJI ### WEATHER ### Clear, 55% humidity, 22 degs ATCA temperature. ### LOCATION ### SUSI ### PROGRAM ### 1) Canopus/Beta Car and MUSCA focus test 2) A stars... but didn't get up to this. ### SIDEROSTATS ### n3 s1 ### TARGETS ### **Canopus** At 10:04 we changed from dual-laser to single-laser, and also aligned all M15s (before they had only been aligned with the apertures in place). **Beta Car** Things were pretty stuffed, with the cart not tracking properly at all, despite a velocity of only 36 microns/s. ### PROBLEMS ### 1) S1 is 2.2 times fainter than N3. 2) V^2 was again very low on MUSCA. On PAVO, the Rat was ~0.4, and the real-time V^2 about 0.05. 3) We made MUSCA fringes better by adjusting focus to maximise MUSCA fringes. Fringes were clear in every scan in 0.2ms mode. Probably a factor of 2 or 3 improvement in V^2. 4) With only 1 laser (the South), OPD error became huge and the visibility was very poor. The North laser doesn't seem to stabilize. To fix this, we tried... a: Resetting the N_MET laser for 1 minute, i.e. to change its temperature significantly. b: Resetting the AV68K, still with Ben's PLC_11.S, then resetting the software. c: Yitping noticed that the S_MET was bouncing back and forward. But this can hardly be the problem... as it was happening at ~0.5 Hz. d: We then tried PLC_10.S. But this made the cart go in the wrong direction! e: Finally, we tried a 5m astromod, and it seemed that the cart would be told to move in integer units of wavelength.... i.e. somehow that the code rounded the cart position to the nearest wavelength.
