### OBSDATE ### 20110907 ### LOGDATE ### 110907 ### OBSERVERS ### BAW ### WEATHER ### Mostly clear. One patch of thin cloud went through but did not interfere with observing. Moderate humidity (65-73%). All-in-all surprisingly good as it was thunder storming at sunset. ### LOCATION ### SUSI ### PROGRAM ### Test new siderostat controller in N1 on sky. Get a bit of science data on the side. ### SIDEROSTATS ### n1 s1 ### TARGETS ### hr 8425 (bright calibrator) hr 8728 (bright calibrator) hr 8636 (B Gru, M giant, should be partially resolved) rinse . . . repeat: hr 8425 hr 8728 hr 8636 hr 8425 hr 8728 ### QUALITY ### Average ### PROBLEMS ### The good news is that N1 seems usable. Automatic acquisition works. Replacing the labjack removed the obvious glitching (as measured by the oscilloscope) on the azimuth axis. Unfortunately, there is still occasional "twitching" of the star visible on the acquisition camera. The tip-tilt mirror appears to keep up most of the time, but the star does occasionally jump out of the field of view requiring a manual re-acquisition. Read "occasionally" as you are going to be doing it at least once per target if not several times. However, I was able to do 8 targets in a little over an hour, so it is annoying, but manageable. I'll try to come up with a plan to chase this problem down. I'll also try to look at the data quality when I am back in Sydney next week, but I haven't actually reduced SUSI data before . . .
