### OBSDATE ### 20121223 ### LOGDATE ### 121224 ### OBSERVERS ### MJI ### WEATHER ### Clear, no wind, few clouds (wispy ones only at the very start) Wind started up at about 7.5 km/h according to ATCA (also registering at SUSI at about 7 km/h) at a similar time to when seeing went from excellent to good. ### LOCATION ### SUSI ### PROGRAM ### Rob de Rosa's survey targets ### SIDEROSTATS ### n3 s2 ### TARGETS ### HR 472 (achernar, fringes found at about -1900) HR 338 (fringes at about -2100) HR 472 (achernar, fringes at about -2060. Continuous fringe lock, V^2 close-ish to 100% at times) HR 338 HR 191 - Have to click "Int up" on acquisition. There should probably be a second intensifier setting for stars fainter than 4th mag in the catalog. HR 338 HR 126 - no fringes because it is a binary and I'm pretty sure each siderostat acquired a different star. HR 472 HR 338 - Stupid acquisition delay because I typed in 388 [hr 191 - more background issues and no fringes. strainge] hr 472 - fringes at -2090 hr 338 - cooler turned off again. When finally re-acquired, the data quality was much worse. NB the north laser heater light was also flashing at this time. hr 472 - confirmed that it isn't just the star - fringes definitely less stable. *** Science over for 338, testing now *** hr 472 - a data set with just the South laser metrology. Appears identical to the "both lasers set" hr 472 - for completeness, a set with just the North laser metrology *** back to science, hopefully *** hr 919. Still using the south periscopes. Adjusted dispersion (i.e. did a "tg") then took another set. Fringes around -1750 now. hr 1088 ** No fringes found - search between -2000 and -1500 at least *** hr 1173 : Reasonable fringes, right on -1710. hr 1088 : Got the fringes this time, -1710. hr 919 hr 1088 hr 1173 hr 1088 hr 919 hr 1088 hr 1173 *** New Star *** hr 3447 (maybe not a good cal, but should be a good fringe finder). Two data sets again - the first while adjusting the glass (from -1m of air to -2m of air) hr 3571 hr 3663 hr 3571 hr 3699 hr 3571 hr 3447 hr 3663 hr 3571 hr 3699 ### QUALITY ### Very good (several calibrated points) ### PROBLEMS ### - Alignment needed to be tweaked at the start. I did N15, S15, NTT, STT and the North Zaber focus. - Issues on re-acquiring the cal for zet phe then achernar. Almost certainly because I was playing wtih gains, and there was a fake lock. North offset -34 -86 Sour offset -45 -28 - On the 3rd achernar acquisition (10pm) saw the background playing up again. Found that the camera had warmed up to room temperature! Cooled back down to -60C. This happened again, then I went to -40 celsius. I suspect that the cooling fluid isn't getting through, and the camera is going into some kind of cooler shutdown mode. - When slewing from far in the West to the South-East, S2 lost its position and needed to be reindexed. Or maybe the pointing model was just bad. After a zoff the star came in pretty quickly.
