### OBSDATE ### 20131203 ### LOGDATE ### 131204 ### OBSERVERS ### MJI (ACR early in evening for checkout) ### WEATHER ### Thin clouds, ~50% humidity, 13 km/hr wind at ATCA, 8 km/hr at SUSI ### LOCATION ### Home ### PROGRAM ### Fringes on the new Nova in Centaurus (or at least check the system out ready for this) ### SIDEROSTATS ### n3 s3 ### TARGETS ### HR 3685 (beta Car) HD 9110 (Nova Cen 2013, no fringes) HR 5267 (beta Cen) ### QUALITY ### Quite bad (no/almost no useful data ### PROBLEMS ### Moderately long spiral search... N3 offsets: 10 -180 S3 offsets: 19 -156 Fringes at -460 (HR 3685) with poor seeing and poor S/N. Realigned - fringes still not great (only tiny alignment needed... N looks like focus could be improved) Thin clouds evident near dawn, as soon as the sky was bright enough to see them. Running at "coolon -40", gain=200 didn't have enough flux... changed to gain-220 on nova S beam lost briefly during initial NOVA fringe search. Given expected low S/N, decided to stick to -800 to 0 for the fringe search (should be within 1.8 arcsec...) Checked fringes on beta Cen (HR 5267). Fringes also found at -460, also intermittent. Used the opportunity to refocus North. After re-homing, optimal N focus was at 238000. S focus appears fine... but also would need re-homing. Note that a good cal for tomorrow may be HR 5358 (v Cen). Needs to be checked... Lost beta Cen due to sky brightness 3 minutes before sunrise. On shutdown (the "park" command), the siderostats crashed... then N3 wouldn't index its elevation. Something to be checked later in the day...
