2D gas model
Other Relevant Demos :
3D Gas Model.
Gassim - KE computer simulaation
Concepts demonstrated :
- kinetic properties of a gas
Diagram of apparatus :
Figure still to come
Equipment needed :
- model
- power supply
- CCD camera linked to television so that it is easy for students to see in a lecture theatre
- OR overhead projector
Method for setting up apparatus :
- Connect a power supply to the apparatus.
- Place the model in front of the CCD camera or at an angle on top of the overhead projector.
Accessories (ie posters etc) :
Physics involved :
Demonstrates the kinetic nature of particles in a gas. Shows that
if you add more energy the particles become more active. You could also show
the behaviour as a liquid if you only use low voltages.
How to use the Demonstration :
- Use in a lecture where you are trying to demonstrate the kinetic nature of particles in a gas.
- You can also show that as you apply more energy
to the system that the kinetic energy of the individual particles increases. This is shown by the piston in the model moving higher up.
- Link this demonstration to computer programmes which also demonstrate the kinetic nature of gas molecules.
- Use in conjunction with the 3D gas model.
