You have a basket ball (volleyball, etc) and you think that it is a little flat. You decide to use a bicycle pump to pump up the ball. You change the pressure of the air inside the ball from 1.1 atmospheres to 1.5 atmospheres. The temperature of the room is 20oC.
1. What will be the temperature inside the ball ?
You remove the pump and allow the temperature of the air in the ball to return to room temperature.
3. What will be the temperature of the air inside the ball if you then allow some of the air to escape from the ball.
5. If you could measure the temperature of the air coming out of the valve of the ball what do you think its temperature would be ?
6. Have you used a pump at a service station to fill up the air in your car or bicycle tires ? Yes / No
7. Please describe the air coming out of this pump.
