I have two beakers, one filled with 100ml of water the other filled with 100ml of oil, both at room temperature (20oC). Both beakers are then placed on a stove and heated.
1. If the water just starts to boil what will be the temperature of the oil ?
3. If I complicate things by telling you that the boiling point of the oil is 80oC then what is the temperature of the oil this time when the water is just starting to boil ? (If students made this assumption in their original answer change the boiling point of the oil to something like 150oC)
