Centre for Waves and Complex Systems

Welcome to the home page of the Centre for Waves and Complex Systems in the School of Physics at the University of Sydney.

Waves lie at the heart of science and technology, conveying information, transmitting energy and interacting with us and our environment in important ways. Complex systems involve multiple, linked, components that can self-organize and become non-deterministic. Complex systems can have open boundary conditions, exchanging energy and information with the surroundings, or can be closed. The science of waves and complex systems underpins research and technology across diverse fields. Often these fields have developed separately, with each evolving its own techniques. In the Centre for Waves and Complex Systems we attempt to integrate expertise in the various components of wave and complex systems science in order to generate new insights into fundamental science across disciplines. Research impact is maximized by applying specific techniques in multiple situations, and by using insights from multiple fields to solve individual problems.
