The competition was a brilliant success!
Twenty-six competitors from UNSW, UTS, Wollongong and Sydney competed in four divisions: Mens and Womens Beginner and Intermediate/Advanced. And everyone walked away with prizes valued greater than their entry fee! The full results are set out below.
Prizes included a $100 voucher & bolt-plates from Alpsport; a $100 Temporary Insanity pass & free games passes from Intencity; a 2000 calendar, chalk bag, magazine packs, chalk blocks & City Climbing Gym passes from Mountain Designs; Sloppy-Joes from The Centre Sports Store; free passes to the Sports Centre and The Ledge; and passes for two to Sydney Observatory.
Simon Bell and Samantha Berry blitzed the Intermediate/Advanced divisions with 395 and 345 points respectively. Neale Baker held up the reputation of UTS with a commendable 2nd in the Mens I/A and Rachel Armstrong took out the Womens Beginners division (although she was the only entrant in the division Rachel had only been climbing for two months which is a great result). Sarah Jones pipped Maureen Murphy for 2nd place in the Womens I/A with a display of effortless climbing. Dave and Michael tied the mens Beginners division with determined climbing. And Mike File and Andrew Jacob put in fine performances -- the judges, however, refused to award them double points for competing in half the time!
Dave Abelson, Mic Rofe and a few others put on an exhibition performance of "Einstein" climbing ["If I have seen further..."]. Silly, but entertaining! And I'm afraid I never found out who won the Weight-Belt event. Does anyone know?
All this was followed by a BBQ and prize-giving.
Thankyou to everyone who competed and to all those of you who helped out on the day: Susie Horsfield, Jane Nixon, Mike Foulkes, Dave Dewar, Maureen Murphy, Simon Bell, Pete Butcher, and I apologise if I've forgotten anyone :\
If you missed out this year make sure you get your entry in for next years competition!
