DATE: Fri, 3 Apr 2009 15:34:42 +1100 SUBJECT: Gemini School Astronomy Contest As part of the International Year of Astronomy, the Australian Gemini Office is offering a chance for high school classes in Australia to take an image with the Gemini-South telescope, one of the largest optical telescopes in the world. Classes can suggest a target to be observed, along with an explanation of what makes the object scientifically and aesthetically appealing. The best submission will then have its target imaged by Gemini. The deadline for entries is 1 May 2009. We hope that ASA members will bring the Contest to the attention of any high school teachers with whom they are in contact.
