DATE: Mon, 4 May 2009 11:43:48 +1000 SUBJECT: ATUC CABB Science Meeting 13th May Apologies if you receive multiple copies of this message. Dear Users of the Australia Telescope National Facility, The Compact Array Broadband Backend (CABB) upgrade will provide a new broadband backend system for the ATCA. The maximum bandwidth of the ATCA will be increased from the current 128-MHz to 2-GHz, a factor of 16 improvement. This will improve the continuum sensitivity of the ATCA by at least a factor of four as well as providing a greatly enhanced spectral line performance, particularly at the higher observing frequencies. The wider bandwidth will allow projects studying spectral lines within a 2-GHz band to be carried out simultaneously. As part of the upcoming meeting of the Australia Telescope Users Committee on the 14th and 15th May, an ATUC Science Day devoted to CABB will be held on May 13th. Details of the meeting follow. ATUC science day: CABB DATE: 13 May 2009 TIME: 10:30 - 16:00 LOCATION: ATNF Marsfield Lecture Theatre For catering purposes, please RSVP to Anne Barends (Anne.Barends@csiro.au ). The program will include a technical description of CABB, advice on how to prepare for observations, observing itself and some early science reports and a recorded observing demonstration. More information on CABB can be found on the ATNF Narrabri site: http://www.narrabri.atnf.csiro.au/observing/CABB.html More information on ATUC can be found on the ATNF site: http://www.atnf.csiro.au/management/atuc/ Regards, Stacy Mader (for) Sarah Maddison ATUC Chair
