Applications close 9.00am Monday 3 August 2009 SCHOOL OF PHYSICAL, ENVIRONMENTAL AND MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Physics Salary: Level B $76,920 - $90,680 pa Level C $93,428 - $107,187 pa The starting date for this position is negotiable. The School encompasses the disciplines of Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics & Statistics, and Physics & Oceanography. Physics is taught via the broad themes of astronomy, materials, atmospheric physics and remote sensing. At the undergraduate level, teaching is directed largely to courses in the Science and Engineering degrees. The School’s current areas of research strength in experimental Physics include Advanced Materials (magnetism, low temperature techniques, neutron scattering, Mössbauer spectroscopy, and applications using radioisotope probes and tracers), Astronomy and Astrophysics (with a focus on star formation) and Lower Atmosphere Physics (remote sensing of atmospheric boundary layer winds and turbulence). Applicants for this position should have a higher degree in Physics or a related discipline (or equivalent experience), and a demonstrated record of excellence in research and publication in one of the above three areas. Other essential requirements are: a demonstrated ability to teach both introductory and specialist Physics courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to work positively and cooperatively in a teaching and research environment; knowledge and understanding of equity and diversity principles; knowledge and commitment to occupational health and safety responsibilities. Willingness to develop Physics courses using flexible delivery techniques and a potential to exploit existing research infrastructure would also be an advantage.
