DATE: Mon, 11 Jan 2010 09:57:38 +1100 SUBJECT: on-line ASA membership To all ASA members: Among my recent tasks for the ASA has been an effort to streamline the processing of membership applications. To that end we have implemented a new procedure for on-line membership applications and an improved process for editing of details for existing members. Links to both can be found near the bottom of the ASA membership page (http://asa.astronomy.org.au/membership.html ). Applicants for membership should now go to the membership page or straight to the on-line membership application form at http://www.physics.usyd.edu.au/~obyrne/asa_membership/asa_members_new1.php . Fill in the form on line and then hit 'Next'. As has always been the case, the form must then be signed by the new member and two proposers who are Members or Fellows. The need for these signatures requires the applicant to email, fax or post the SIGNED copy of the form to me at the address indicated on the form. The data will already have been received electronically and will be approved as soon as the paper copy is received. The result should be much quicker processing than has been typical in recent times. Current members wishing to change their details have a new form to do that at http://www.physics.usyd.edu.au/~obyrne/asa_membership/asa_members_user_edit.php , in the same format as the application. Please use this form rather than directly emailing either me or the Treasurer. Access requires the email address that is used for your ASA emails. That can be a bit variable, so please consult me if it is unclear. Note that the membership records have been cleaned up a bit in this process so it is likely there may be some errors I haven't spotted. Please check your entry and update it if necessary. This change is timely since ASA subscription notices for 2010 will be emailed out during the week beginning 11 January. If you do not receive your subs notice by 18 Jan please contact the Treasurer, Diana Londish, at dlondish@live.com stating your correct email address. Please note Diana is currently working at the University of Sydney, tel: 02 9036 6188 but her current contact details for ASA mail and fax appear on the 2010 subs notice. Any comments on all this to me please. Thanks.
