DATE: Tue, 17 Nov 2009 16:18:10 +1100 SUBJECT: First Announcement: "Celebrating the AAO: Past, Present, and Future" *** FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT *** Celebrating the AAO: Past, Present, and Future The Shire Hall, Coonabarabran, 21 to 25 June 2010 In 2010 the Anglo-Australian Observatory will see both its 36th anniversary and its transition from a joint UK and Australian facility to a wholly Australian entity, the Australian Astronomical Observatory. This transition will occur on 1 July 2010. To celebrate the past successes and the exciting future of the AAO, we are holding a Symposium with the theme "Celebrating the AAO: Past, Present and Future". The meeting will be held in Coonabarabran over 21-25 June 2010. There will be a welcome reception, an open day at the AAT, and half-day of tours around the region, along with a number of other social events. More details of the schedule and events will be circulated closer to the date of the conference. We are looking forward to a fascinating and enjoyable celebration covering historical overviews of the AAO, ongoing research, and eagerly anticipated developments. More details of the program as it is developed, as well as information on accommodation, travel and more, will be available on the conference web page: http://www.aao.gov.au/AAO2010/ We encourage you to register early, as the conference will be limited in numbers. The registration form is open now, and we will begin accepting payments from early December. A second announcement will be circulated with a reminder when registration payments are open. The conference registration fee is AU$100. The due date for payment is the 1st April 2010. There will be a late registration fee after 1 April 2010 of AU$300.
