DATE: Tue, 19 Jan 2010 15:50:16 +1100 SUBJECT: An Announcement for the ASA e-mail Exploder --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT: Workshop on Wide Field Spectrograph (WiFeS) Data Reduction 28 April 2010 http://rsaa.anu.edu.au/research/meetings/wifes2010/ --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The new Wide Field Spectrograph (WiFeS) at the 2.3m telescope of the Australian National University has been used for a large variety of observing projects since its commissioning in March/April 2009. The aim of this one-day workshop is an inventory of the practical experience with WiFeS data reduction gained by users during the first year of WiFeS operations. By bringing together present and future WiFeS users as well as observers with a general interest in WiFeS data, the workshop will be a forum to review and discuss data reduction methods, the WiFeS IRAF package, data calibration requirements, and observing strategies. The workshop will be held on 28 April 2010 in the Duffield Lecture Theatre of the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics of the Australian National University. The tentative workshop program includes a morning session with presentations and an afternoon session devoted to discussion of particular issues and their solution. There is no registration fee. If you are interested in attending the workshop, please send an email with your name and affiliation to Julia Scharwaechter: julia@mso.anu.edu.au . If, in addition, you would like to contribute a presentation about any aspect of WiFeS data reduction and calibration, please send an email to julia@mso.anu.edu.au, including your name, affiliation, as well as the title and abstract of your presentation. The deadline for the submission of contributions is 31 March 2010. The final program will be announced in the first week of April. ________________________________ Prof. Michael Dopita Mt.
