DATE: Sun, 24 Jan 2010 17:11:14 +1100 SUBJECT: ELECTION OF ANITA STEERING COMMITTEE - NOMINATIONS DUE 29TH JANUARY ELECTION OF ANITA STEERING COMMITTEE The Australian National Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics (ANITA) has been operating during 2009 with an ad hoc Steering Committee It is now time to call elections for all Steering Committee positions with the exception of Immediate Past Convenor. This position will be filled by Prof. John Lattanzio (Monash). We therefore invite nominations for: Convenor (open to full members of ANITA) Steering Committee Members (6 positions available; open to full members of ANITA; 3 positions for 2 years; 3 positions for 1 year) 1 Student Member (open to student members) ANITA has been active over the past year with the following activities: • March Theory Fest at Mt Stromlo (two day conference focusing on Australian theoretical astrophysics) • Collaboration with Swinburne Astrophysics and Supercomputing on AAL proposal for support personnel in Computational Astrophysics • Town Hall Meeting at the ASA AGM • Participation in discussion leading to successful bid for GPU facility through Astronomy Australia Activities for 2010 include: • ASA/ANITA Astrophysics Summer School on Nucleosynthesis at Monash University • Regular production of an ANITA Newsletter • Submission to NCA midterm review of Decadal Plan • March Theory Fest combined with GPU meeting at Swinburne University (details TBA) The Steering Committee plays a leading role in these activities. If you would like to be involved in them and to promote other initiatives in Astrophysical Theory, please consider nominating yourself for one of the above positions.
