DATE: Tue, 25 Aug 2009 21:51:37 +1000 SUBJECT: UNSW Exoplanetary Science Vacation Scholarships UNSW Exoplanetary Science Vacation Scholarships =============================================== The Exoplanetary Science group, based within the Department of Astrophysics and the Australian Centre for Astrobiology, at the University of NSW will accept applications for Vacation Scholarships from enthusiastic university students with excellent scholastic records who have completed their their third or are in their fourth years of their undergraduate degree. The Exoplanetary Science group, headed by Professor Chris Tinney, is a key member of the Anglo-Australian Planet Search which has discovered more than 30 exoplanets over its 10 year lifetime. The Exoplanetary Science group is also a member of the Australian Centre for Astrobiology - one of only two Centres outside the US who are associates of the NASA Astrobiology Institute. Vacation students will usually manage attend an observing run at the Anglo-Australian Telescope during their scholarship. UNSW's Kensington campus is situated just 10 minutes from both Sydney's vibrant city centre, and Sydney's world-renowned eastern beaches. This program is open to undergraduates at Australian & New Zealand universities. Applications from students outside of Australia & New Zealand with exceptional records may also be considered. Scholarships will generally last between 6 and 10 weeks, to be negotiated between the student and their nominated supervisor. Vacation Scholars are paid a tax-free stipend of $500 per week. Australian students will also be eligible to have return travel to Sydney paid for. For vacation scholarships over the period December 2009 to February 2010, we ask for applications to be submitted by the 30th September 2009.
