SUBJECT: Australian funding to participate in the GMT


Dear ASA members,

The Australian National University and Astronomy Australia Limited are delighted
that the EIF proposal to fund Australian participation in the Giant Magellan
Telescope has been successful. We continue to be guided by the Decadal Plan’s
goal of participating in an ELT at the 10% level and we will work together with
the Department of Innovation to progress this positive announcement by Minister
Carr.

Over the past two years ANU and AAL have been working together and jointly
funding the GMT design development phase. We anticipate continuing this
relationship.
