DATE: Fri, 28 Aug 2009 09:02:30 +1000 SUBJECT: Physics at Swinburne Postgraduate Information Day: 25th September Physics at Swinburne: Make the breakthrough Swinburne University of Technology invites Honours/Masters students from Australia and New Zealand who are interested in postgraduate study in Physics to a Postgraduate Information Day on the 25th September, 2009. The Information Day will be held at Swinburne University's Hawthorn campus which is just minutes by public transport from Melbourne's city centre. We will provide an overview of physics research strengths at Swinburne and students will be guided through the research Centre of their choice for more information. You will have the opportunity to meet potential PhD/Masters supervisors and discuss possible research projects with them, one-on- one, and to meet current PhD/Masters students. Lunch, coffee and an informal "debrief" in a local cafe/bar will also be provided. Free travel to Melbourne: Swinburne will pay for your travel to Melbourne to see our facilities and meet your future colleagues. Visitors residing outside Melbourne will also be accommodated in a local hotel for one night. You are very welcome to stay longer at your own expense (AFL Grand Final on the 26th, a Melbourne must?). Swinburne is world-renowned in it's areas of physics research focus, including Astrophysics and Supercomputing Atom Optics/Ultracold Quantum Gases Biophysics Lasers and Applied Optics Micro-Photonics Nanotechnology Theoretical Physics Ultrafast Science Applications due 11th September: Apply by sending Dr. Chris Vale (phone: 03 9214 8026) a half-page statement about why you are interested in postgraduate study (PhD or Masters by Research) at Swinburne together with a copy of your current university academic transcript(s). Applications must be received by the 11th September, 2009. Further information is available at www.swinburne.edu.au/physics Astronomers note: Students interested in Astrophysics & Supercomputing may CC their application to Dr. Michael Murphy (phone: 03 9214 5818).
