Hello!!!

Fernie rocks. The town is small, and the resort is pretty huge, but small enough that you can at least see most of it in a day. So it's not too intimidating, unless you find vertical-looking black runs intimidating (they're obviously not really vertical, probably around 30 degrees). It's so uncrowded, I'm glad I came here instead of Whistler.

Canada seems pretty nice. There has been basically no culture shock, which is either good or bad or neutral depending on your holiday preferences. They even have Brand Power ads here. The lady is different, but she does exactly the same motions and looks, holding the item in the same way as our Brand Power lady. The graphics are the same too.

Anyway, back to regular touristing...be prepared for some views!

The town, as seen from the top of Lizard Bowl.

Fun with 12x optical and 4x digital zoom :-)

See if you can spot them in this next photo...this photo was taken from the village, which is really nice and small. Nowhere near as crowded as I'm used to, you can actually buy lunch and find a seat in about 5 minutes!

The Siberia Bowl part of the resort had a wonderful feel to it because the trees were still snowy over there. This was near the top of the Falling Star run, a blue run which is the longest run at Fernie, at about 5 km.

The world famous underwear tree, seen from the Elk Chair. I don't know if there's a story behind this...and I don't know if I want to know!

The main drag, with the mountains looming ominously in the background. It feels much bigger when you're here. :-D

I wonder what the reasons were behind the choice of name for this supermarket. Perhaps it comes from a time when heating was scarce and people needed to fatten up for the winter? ;-)

At the Same Sun Backpackers I've met quite a few people, and as a general rule they're all pretty cool. There's Avalanche Alby, a Scot (no photos sorry) and Eric the Norwegian, whose accent sounds like McBain from the Simpsons. He skis frigging fast. I did a few card tricks for people. Biddle Trick has been the best.

I spent a lot of time with two English girls, Sarah and Julia. I can assure you that they look much better in real life, this is a pretty bad photo but the only one I've got. Sorry!

We spent plenty of time in the Griz Bar at the base of the lifts, discussing things such as what messages Gin and Tonic sends out to prospective female partners. Apparently it's not a macho drink. :-S But I'll continue to fight the good fight and reclaim the right for straight men to drink alcoholic beverages that actually taste nice!

Here's some snow ghosts, as requested by Ben.

That'll do for now. Soon I'll be off to Big White. More Fernie Photos
