Betatron acceleration

Betatron acceleration refers to situations in which the magnetic field strength increases slowly in time (compared with a gyroperiod), so that $\mu$ remains constant, but the particle kinetic energy is not constant due to the presence of electric fields (associated with the time-varying magnetic field). Then, the perpendicular energy is increased due to constancy of $\mu$.
