Dear ASA members,

The deadline for registering for the 2023 ASA ECR Symposium Series has been extended to midnight (AWST) on Friday the 7th of June.

Register here: https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/OXxoClx1Nji1D0v9PCGBJB7?domain=forms.gle

We would like to clarify that all ECRs are encouraged to register, regardless of whether or not they are applying for an academic job in 2023 - in the event of an oversubscription, those applying for jobs this year will be prioritised, but it is not a requirement for participation.

Additionally, ASA membership is not required at the time of registration, but successful candidates will be required to be ASA members by the time they present their talks.

Please circulate to students and ECRs within your department.

Cheers
Henry

Dear ASA members,

The ASA Early Career Researcher Chapter Steering Committee is pleased to open registration for the 2023 ASA ECR Symposium Series! This new initiative will provide support and funding for ECRs to visit and present their work at institutions across Australia.

What is the 2023 ASA ECR Symposium Series?

Visits to different research institutions are an excellent way for ECRs to showcase their research, network with peers, and spark new collaborations. By elevating ECRs’ research profiles, such visits can importantly lead to job opportunities.

Running from July to September 2023, the 2023 ASA ECR Symposium Series will consist of a series of colloquia that will be given by ECRs at various institutes around Australia. Registration will be similar to that of a conference: interested participants will submit up to 3 talk titles and abstracts suitable for a long-format talk (30-50 minutes, depending on the host institution). The Committee will create a shortlist of abstracts, which will be anonymised and circulated to participating host institutes around Australia. Host institutes will then select which talk(s) they would like to host, based on research interests. The speakers will then negotiate suitable dates for their visit to the host institute, during which they will give their colloquium; where possible, these will also be broadcast via Zoom so that ASA members can attend remotely.

Funding for travel and accommodation for a 2-3 day visit will be provided depending on the availability of host institute funding; OzGrav members may also be eligible for travel support from OzGrav. Virtual visits will be an option if preferred by the speaker, or if no travel funding is available.

How do I register?

To register, click on the following link: https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/OXxoClx1Nji1D0v9PCGBJB7?domain=forms.gle

We welcome submissions from PhD students, postdocs, and anyone without a permanent position. We particularly welcome submissions from diverse applicants. Preference will be given to ECRs who will be on the job market in the latter half of 2023. In addition to a talk title and abstract, we also ask for an example of slides from a previous talk, if possible, to help the Committee assess preparedness for a full-length colloquium.

Registrations will close at midnight on the 30th of June midnight (AWST) on Friday the 7th of July.

Please forward this email to any ECRs who may be interested. ASA ECR Chapter membership is not required; however, we encourage interested parties to join at https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/D_xkCmO5glupGBr0PHOzxQ_?domain=asa-ecr.org to stay up-to-date on the services we provide.

Kind regards,
The ASA ECR Chapter Steering Committee
